WADER PROJECT OFFICER WITH THE BREEDING WADERS EIP
The Breeding Waders EIP project will work with farmers to secure
existing wader populations at key sites, and to support population
recovery via wider landscape management and policy development.
IRL is now seeking expressions of interest in short term (**Apply on
the website** weeks) Wader Project Officer contracts.

JOB DESCRIPTION
* To work with the BREEDING WADERS TEAM in the management and
monitoring of bird location using a standardised protocol.
* To work with the BREEDING WADERS TEAM in known key areas for
breeding waders at project sites (and other connected sites where
relevant).
* To work with the BREEDING WADERS TEAM to identify habitat
management agreements and grant schemes relevant to the protection of
habitats.
* To visit sites with the BREEDING WADERS TEAM, to review areas used
by Breeding Waders, and to help ensure positive outcomes for birds
* Surveys and nest finding- Surveying sites for Wader occupancy,
finding nests to enable conservation actions and Headstarting
* Advice on Wader conservation measures- The Wader Project Officer
shall assist with the decision-making process designed to direct where
measures are to be undertaken, using the budget available and with the
consent of local landowners. The main elements are the erection of
nest protection fences, predator control and the enhancement of
habitat through capital works. Formal (e.g. demonstration/best
practice management events) and informal (one-to-one) training and
guidance shall be given to landowners involved in the scheme.
* Assist with the development of Land Management Agreements, Habitat
Enhancement &/or Restoration and Agri-environmental actions
* Fostering of positive attitudes towards Breeding Waders among
landowners, the wider local community and the general public
* Local leadership and administration- Directing the efforts of
on-the-ground actions and working closely with the relevant NPO’s
AS REGARDS ADMINISTRATION, THE WPO’S WILL-
* engage landowners in the Breeding Wader EIP;
* help design, develop and roll-out Land Management Agreements
* record landowner effort (in terms of actions and hours) on a
weekly basis, and certify that landowners have engaged to a requisite
standard in order to draw down reimbursement.
The WPO will also engage with the local Nest Protection Officer(s) and
will make available any information necessary to the formulation of
Site Specific Nest Protection Plan’s.
